Dr Shahin Pourgol, MBA, DC, DO, PhD
NAO & NUMSS professor

Thank you very much, Dr. Pourgol, truly. I sincerely appreciate all your advice and your work to give us the best means to improve our odds to succeed in this new path. Your speech at graduation ceremony was very inspiring. As you said, you will always be part of the change in our lives, an important part, let me complete, and I will always be grateful to you for all the knowledge that you have transferred to us but, most of all, for your devotion as a teacher and your engagement to your students to make successful people of us. The Two Full Time Osteopathy Programs in Canada

Canadian Osteopathic Education

There are currently a number of schools of osteopathy in Canada offering educational programs in European style osteopathy (aka manual osteopathy, no surgery, no medications).

There are only two schools offering osteopathy programs in Canada on full time basis. National Academy of Osteopathy offers a 12 months (260 days) full time diploma in osteopathic manual practice (DOMP) program through online as well as on-campus program. The only 4 year (640 days) full time osteopathic education in Canada is offered as a DO (doctor of osteopathy) program by Spain based National University of Medical Sciences (online or on-campus).

There is no other 3, 4 or 5 years full time osteopathy program in Canada. All other osteopathic colleges offer programs that are part time but take 3, 4 or 5 years to be completed.

For example the number of teaching days of the 4 and 5 years part time osteopathy programs offered by some colleges in Ontario is approximately 200 days. Another college that offers a 3 year program in osteopathy has total teaching days of only 36 days.

NAO and NUMSS offer the longest, most detailed osteopathy programs in Canada. They also teach most techniques than any other school in Canada.

To receive our information package on how you can become a manual osteopath send an email to admissions@nationalacademyofosteopathy.com or admissions@numss.com.

What title can I use after earning a DBM?

After successfully graduating from the doctor of botanical medicine (DBM) of NUMSS you can call yourself a doctor of botanical medicine in most countries. However in some countries such as Canada & USA the title of "Dr" is regulated and cannot be used by our graduates. In these countries you can mention that you earned a DBM - Doctor of Botanical Medicine as your designation after your name. But you must call yourself a "botanical medicine specialist", and refrain from using "Dr" before your name.

NHAA accepts NUMSS DBM

We are happy to announce that the National Herbalists Association of Australia (NHAA) accepts for membership the graduates of the DBM (Doctor of Botanical Medicine) of NUMSS (National University of Medical Sciences).

NUMSS students and graduates interested in membership to NHAA should contact them directly at http://www.nhaa.org.au/join-us.
